We are so very grateful for your support. Omaru is enjoying school and doing well. The school that he attends recently moved to new facilities as shown in this photo album. You can see the kids excitedly playing at the school in the photo album. We are so thankful that we are together enhancing the quality of education that they are receiving. You are Helping the Future Leaders of Cameroon

Your support has helped provide school supplies to the Bitame Lucia Nursery and Primary School (BLIS) as well as to other schools. Pencils and school supplies were distributed to the pupils of Nyabi Primary School. This school has 800 pupils, 400 which are refugees children from Central Africa and Nigeria. The families fled their homes due to violent conflicts in the Central African Republic (CAR) and increasing animosity between armed groups in northern Nigeria.  The CAPEC Team also visited and donated some educational materials to Bape Mondial School. The school has 75 kids and functions out of a 3 hut with a roof made of palm leaves, no administrative block, no toilet, no running water and very few seats for the children - as seen in the linked photo album.  When it’s raining season, these children cannot even go to school!  In many of the rural schools in Cameroon, children are struggling to write without a pencil or pen. In one of the schools, 5 children shared a single pencil. The teacher explained the stress and unproductiveness of waiting for a child to write notes, and then pass the pencil on to another child. Most of them lacked basic exercise books and basic school supplies.  In response to the desperate needs, we will shortly be broadening the scope of this project to support additional schools and other areas of need. We want to ensure that many more children have their own pencils and the other basic school supplies.  The school in the following link badly needs a supporting structure and resources. The kids deserve so much more - and the opportunity of a decent education. Please join us in supporting the education of disadvantaged and displaced kids. Thank you so much for your on-going support!

Future Leaders Working Hard in School

Thank for your continued support that is enabling students, like Christiana, to complete their education. Christiana received a scholarship for her final year of Senior Secondary School.  Her next step will be to work toward becoming a banker, her desired future profession. Please watch this video of appreciation from Christiana.  In the video she says:  I am Christiana, a beneficiary of the Develop Africa Sponsorship. I would like to say a very big thank you for your unreserved support towards my academics all through this year. Thank you so very much, Blessings.  Your support has made an impact on multiple schools and many children's lives, like Christiana.  Many of the students would be unable to attend school without the scholarships that you help provide. We are greatly appreciative of your support that is helping prepare them for a brighter future.

We Brought Hope and Comfort

Because of your support, we were able to respond to the immediate need of the Dumbuya family.  We provided a wide range of food items including rice, onions, salt/spices, groundnuts and other cooking items.  This was a tremendous and welcome help to them - as they were then staying temporarily with a neighbor. We also had the opportunity to provide counseling to them during their time of loss - due to passing away of the youngest daughter.    Their long-term need to find more permanent housing has not been resolved. They still have not been able to find available and affordable housing. With this in mind, they are currently investigating building a zinc/aluminum sheet house. They have obtained permission from a landowner and construction should start in the next month or so. We are continuing to support them through this process.  Thank you again for helping to bring hope and restore normalcy to their lives.

We are Working on Reverse Deforestation

Thank you for your support in our ongoing efforts to reverse deforestation in Sierra Leone.   Due to the extent of the problem, this is a long-term endeavor with no quick fix.  Sierra Leone is prone to environmental disasters such as flooding and landslides due in part to deforestation. A recent article states that the August 2017 flood disaster will happen again if politicians and administration allow unplanned settlements and deforestation.   "Every year, intense rains fall throughout Sierra Leone. In a dataset of annual precipitation by rainfall, Sierra Leone falls at number 12 globally. The Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (UN) estimated that the tiny West African country received over 2,500 mm of rain from 2013 to 2017.  Deforestation presents a significant threat to regions prone to mudslides. Tree roots are often effective in anchoring soil in place, and as roots are removed, it's more likely rain will trigger deadly slides. According to the watchdog group Global Forest Watch, Sierra Leone has lost nearly 800,000 hectares of forest cover in the past decade, with loss accelerating in 2015." - National Geographic.  As an organization, one of our goals is to continue to plant trees as a way of combating deforestation, erosions, and mudslides and also to preserve the environment. The included photos (taken this week) show the growth of the trees we planted a few months ago.  We are planning to do additional planting just before the rainy season in a few months. Your on-going support is much appreciated as we continue to follow the steps recommended by the local Environmental Protection Agency to reverse the deforestation and better protect Sierra Leone in the future. Together we can help ensure a safer future for the next generation.

Thanks for Supporting Girls' Education

Thank you so much for donating towards this project - to help provide scholarships for girls. Unfortunately, the funds raised were inadequate to cover the next construction phase for the new poultry shed. Consequently, we decided to pause further development for now. We are convinced that this is a viable venture and we will revisit this in future.  Given that our long-term goal is to assist girls with scholarship, we decided to do the next best thing - to use these funds to meet the urgent scholarship needs of a deserving young lady, called Balu. Balu is a former student of the Creating Pathways Centre. She is pursuing a 3-year course in Business Studies at the National Centre for Vocational Studies.  Balu was so grateful to receive funding towards her course fees and books. She asked us to pass on to you her appreciation for supporting her education. You can see her warm smile in the included photo. We are delighted that we have together been able to further Balu's education. Thank you again for your support.

The Supplies That We Sent Are Supporting Education in Cameroon

Your support helped ship 14 drums from Johnson City, TN to Kentucky (More Photos).  The school supplies were then airlifted to Northern Cameroon. Our implementing partner, the Civil Affairs Team - US Army, is distributing the school supplies in Garoua, Cameroon. The team has been working tirelessly with the village and school leaders to address some of the village's vulnerabilities and help minimize the influence of Boko Haram in the region In November and December 2017, the team facilitated a donation of our school supplies, along with soccer balls from Kick for Nick and medical supplies. The donation occurred in the quartier of Ouro Mal Ahamadou.  The school awarded some of the school supplies to the top performing primary school students. The supplies were warmly received and very much appreciated.  Full Photo album Our support is enabling a welcome and appreciated alternative for the kids and youths. The population is susceptible to a lifestyle of crime, poverty and extremist organizations. Some of the kids and youths have been orphaned as a direct result of Boko Haram activities in North Cameroon.  We are supporting education as a pathway to a brighter and alternate future. This support is essential and life-transforming. Thanks to your support, we are providing the resources they need to meet the needs of the population in Northern Cameroon. We are truly making a difference - helping to support education.  We are changing mindsets and building a brighter future in Cameroon. Together, we are promoting progress and helping to make the world a better place.
